What is Chronic Pain?
Chronic pain is different from pains that we normally go through. In this, your body keeps hurting weeks, months, or even years after the injury. Chronic pain can range from mild to severe. It can continue day after day or come and go.
Doctors often define chronic pain as any pain that lasts for 3 to 6 months or more. Chronic pain can have real effects on your day-to-day life and your mental health. But you and your doctor can work together to treat it.
Can Medical Marijuana help treat Chronic Pain?
According to a report released earlier in January by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), one of the strongest conclusions of the report, which provides basically the most comprehensive, up-to-date look at what all available research on cannabis tell us that there is conclusive or substantial evidence (in general, enough to make a firm conclusion) that cannabis or cannabinoids, found in the marijuana plant, can be an effective treatment for chronic pain.
This matters because it has implications for how we treat pain and how we assess the value of medical marijuana. Researchers tell that the most common reason that people seek out medical cannabis is for chronic pain.
